Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison(DCSSL), Jackie Macie,
has expressed gratitude to the thousands of supporters who attended the international rugby match between South Africa and Argentina on Saturday 28 September, for the excellent cooperation with law enforcement agencies and the security cluster.
According to the MEC, the match was a resounding success with no major incidents or crashes reported in the city of Mbombela and various roads in the province.
He said many people flocked to Mbombela and traffic volumes peaked as a result.
“ We also thank members of the security cluster for ensuring that there was no congestion in and around Mbombela stadium and traffic was well controlled.
“ We also laud the organisers for ensuring park and ride facilities for which members of the public were amenable to, this assisted in avoiding congestion because the number of vehicles going to the stadium was drastically reduced. We appreciate the collaborative work done by all members of the security and law enforcement for the success of the event,” said Macie.

The MEC added that the province has showed its capability to host successful and incident-free events but this success relies on stakeholders and communities working together.
He furthermore acknowledged the role played by public transport operators for ensuring that sports supporters are transported to and from various venues.
