The end of the festive season will not be the end of road safety in Mpumalanga.
This is according to the MEC for DCSSL(Community Safety, Security and Liaison), Jackie Macie, as he urged motorists to remain alert and abide to the rules of the road when most people will be returning to work and school.
He said traffic volumes are expected to increase and assured the public that traffic officers will remain visible to ensure that all road users arrive safe to their respective destinations.
“We need to appreciate the motorists who always remember that it is their responsibility to ensure safety when on the road. We will continue to encourage those who break the law to begin to respect the rules of the road. Road Safety is everybody’s business, that is why we encourage all users of the road to play their part by using it responsibly,” he said.

He also reminded motorists to check their vehicles and ensure that they are roadworthy before undertaking a trip.
The MEC further encouraged parents to ensure that the vehicles used to transport learners to school are safe, roadworthy and not overloaded.
Macie encouraged parents to report school transport operators who break the law to the authorities.
“Don’t risk the lives of your children in the name of saving money. We’ve had a lot of crashes in the past involving school children, parents can help government curb these crashes by reporting lawlessness,” said Macie.
