In a bid to monitor the implementation of government priorities on service delivery, particularly in healthcare services, the National Portfolio Committee on Health alongside Mpumalanga MEC for Health Sasekani Manzini, conducted an oversight visit as mandated by parliament, at the Mapulaneng Regional Hospital in the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, on Tuesday 3 February 2026.
The delegation reportedly received an update on the implementation of the Mapulaneng Hospital project, currently under construction.
Once completed, the hospital is expected to be a modern, state-of-the-art health facility that will significantly improve access to quality healthcare for local communities.

According to Mpumalanga Department of Health, the Portfolio Committee emphasised that oversight visits are critical in ensuring accountability, identifying service delivery gaps, and strengthening the public health system to better serve communities.
The Committee was reportedly briefed about the progress of the health institution, and further assessed the project’s readiness, timelines, budget, and readiness.
“ The visit aimed to assess the Provincial Department of Health’s performance in providing quality healthcare to the communities, as well as to engage with provincial authorities about the challenges, progress, and interventions on healthcare services.
“ The Committee also conducted an inspection of the old Mapulaneng Hospital to assess the status of healthcare service delivery and infrastructure,” said the Department of Health.
