The role played by Field Rangers in protecting and preserving wild life was duly recognised by Mpumalanga MEC for the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs(DARDLEA), Nompumelelo Hlophe, in conjunction with Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency(MTPA) and the Department of Economic Development and Tourism(DEDT)during an award ceremony held at Manyeleti Nature Reserve, in Bushbuckridge Local Municipality.
According to a statement issued by DARDLEA, the event was in line with the 2024 World Rangers Day celebrations, which is celebrated annually on 31 July.
MEC Hlophe acknowledged the efforts of Field Rangers, particularly in their gallant fight against poachers. Hlophe said that the war against poaching should not rest solely on the shoulders of Field Rangers, but all stakeholders should come together and show their support.
“ The day began with a hand-over of work equipment and PPEs from USAID for Field Rangers. Other activities included demonstrations and performance on anti-poaching by local schools,” said DARDLEA.
