A shootout at a car wash in Kanyamazane, outside Nelspruit, has reportedly led to the death of a 44 year old Nelspruit Police Captain.

It reported that the slain victim met his untimely demise after an argument that ensued when his private car was bumped at the  car wash by an alleged suspect, who was also a customer.

Hawks spokesperson in Mpumalanga Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, said that witnesses confirmed that the suspect allegedly took out a firearm, shot and killed the deceased during the argument.

“ The matter was discussed amongst the two (victim and suspect) with the assistance of a CI police sergeant, who was with the deceased. An agreement was made for payment of R5000 for repairs of the damages,” said Sekgotodi.

She added that the sergeant allegedly drove the suspect’s car to the parents of the deceased, pending the payment as agreed. The sergeant and the deceased reportedly went back to the car wash after parking the suspect’s car.

“ In an attempt to apprehend the suspect, the suspect shot at the sergeant who fired back where after the suspect fled on foot. Preliminary investigation was conducted by the team comprising The Hawks Nelspruit based Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit, together with Mpumalanga Provincial Organised Crime, Nelspruit Crime Intelligence and Local Criminal Record Centre,” said Sekgotodi.

Sekgotodi furthermore said a manhunt for the suspect is underway and the investigation into the matter continues.
