The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation(Hawks) and the Border Management Authority have joined forces to seize a staggering R428,800 in cash at the Oshoek Border Post on Tuesday 24 September.
As a result, a 39 year-old South African national was reportedly arrested while attempting to cross the border into Swaziland.
Mpumalanga spokesperson for the Hawks, Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, said the two law enforcement agencies spotted the suspect as he tries to jump the fence holding a black plastic bag.

He was reportedly stopped and searched. Sekgotodi said the suspect was found with a black plastic bag containing the cash, but couldn’t provide a clear explanation for its origin or destination.
ā Information was escalated to the Hawks Secunda-based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation. It was discovered that the money was not declared as per FIC Act 38 of 2001 in terms of Section 54 read with Section 30. He was then arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property. The money was seized and booked in the SAP 13,ā said Sekgotodi.
The Provincial Head of the Hawks, Major-General Nicholas Gerber, congratulated the vigilance of the Hawks members as well as Border Management Authority during the search and apprehension of the suspect.
