As part of monitoring various traffic law enforcement and road safety activations in the province, MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison(DCSSL), Vusi Shongwe, visited the Oshoek Border Gate that is situated along the N17 toll road in Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality on Wednesday 20 December.

The border gate that links South Africa and The Kingdom Of RSwatini is reportedly facing an increased number of trucks passing through. According to DCSSL, about 1500 trucks were previously processed per day on average, but the number has since increased to 1700.
” The MEC is, however, pleased with how trucks and other travellers are being attended to by the officials. He has called on truck owners or those who are responsible for loading trucks to always ensure that when the drivers take to the road all their documents are in order.

” The MEC says this will alleviate unnecessary delays, and trucks will move swiftly to their respective destinations. The department collaborated with SASOL to enhance road safety education among the motorists, passengers and pedestrians at the border,” said DCSSL in a statement.
