As part of the ongoing efforts to promote cervical cancer prevention and women’s health in Mpumalanga, the MEC for Health, Sasekani Manzini, visited Rob Ferreira Tertiary Hospital, in the City of Mbombela, to undergo a colposcopy.
According to the Manzini, colposcopy is a simple and important procedure that helps to detect early changes in the cervix before cancer can develop.
MEC Manzini said cervical cancer is preventable and treatable when detected early. She said the service is available, free of charge, in public health facilities, and it’s conducted by caring and qualified health professionals.
“ I encourage all women, especially those aged 25 and above, to visit their nearest clinic or hospital for a Pap smear, HPV test, or colposcopy when referred.
Let’s also ensure that our girls aged 9–12 receive the HPV vaccine it’s one of the most powerful tools we have to protect the next generation.
“ Together, we can save lives by taking small steps today for a healthier tomorrow, because a healthy woman means a healthy family, and a healthy family builds a healthy Mpumalanga,” said MEC Manzini.
