A well-known pastor, former radio presenter and businessman, Dr Ezrom Mathumbu, was shot and killed on the R536 Road at Cork Trust, between Mkhuhlu and Kruger National Park in the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality, on Wednesday evening.
Mathumbu reportedly left the SABC radio station(Munghana Lonene FM) in 2024 and joined politics as a member of Action SA. He met his death on his way back home after a political meeting he had attended.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, said Mathumbu was shot multiple times in an apparent attack while driving his Toyota GD-6 bakkie.
“ Nothing appears to have been taken during the incident, and police recovered some cartridges of a rifle at the scene. Paramedics unfortunately certified the victim dead on the scene. As for now, no suspects have been arrested, and the motive behind this senseless killing remains unknown,” said Brigadier Mdhluli.
Additionally, Brigadier Mdhluli said the Acting Provincial Police Commissioner in Mpumalanga, Major-General(Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has condemned the incident and tasked a team of investigative experts to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
“ We appeal to anyone with information that could assist in apprehending the suspects to contact the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or send information via MYSAPSAPP. All received information will be treated as confidential, and informants can opt to remain anonymous,” said Mdhluli.
