The collaboration between local business and MEC Speed Mashilo from the Mpumalanga department of human Settlements has played a huge role in ensuring that the Mabuza family, in Watervaal-Dr JS Moroka local municipality, receive shelter.
According to the department, the family of nine members lost its breadwinner who was reportedly murdered by criminals during a robbery a few years ago. The deceased was reportedly a street vendor specialising in vegetables in order to put food on the table. It is also reported that the family was struggling to complete the house under which they lived. The plight of the family was reportedly brought to the attention of MEC Mashilo, who managed to mobilise local businesses to assist the family in completing the house, also ensuring that furniture is installed.
During the handover of the house, Mashilo called for more partnership between government and stakeholders.
” We must remember that shelter is very important. Children without shelter end up in the streets and commit crimes, but when they have shelter they become better people. This means that everyone must come on board and help those who are in need in our communities,” said Mashilo.
