The Department of Agriculture Rural Development and land Affairs in Mpumalanga through the leadership of its new MEC Busi Shiba is continuing to empower rural farmers, in Mpumalanga.
Fikile Nkosi a lady who has long been dreaming of farming from Nkomazi decided on farming of Mushrooms which farmers always run away from farming because of its high maintaining.
Nkosi know as a subsistence mushroom producer is aiming high and through the help of DARDLEA she will soon be a commercial producer.
” I have never been this happy ever in my life, my dream has finally came true, I will be able to hire people locally, thank you so much to DARDLEA”, she said.

Fikile is the founder of Finko Trading project, a mushroom production project, which is expected to start its operation soon at Mjejane, under Nkomazi Local Municipality.

The Finko Trading Project, was funded by the Department, through the Comprehensive Agricultural Support Programme (CASP) for the construction of Mushroom Production Facilities in the 2021/22 financial year. The structure consist of a growing-house, pack-house, cold room and installation of palisade fencing.

Nkosi interest in mushrooms started in 2013 during a one year training with DARDLEA’s Unemployed Graduate Programme, placed under a Mushroom Cooperative in Gert Sibande District.

After the training ended she saw an opportunity to learn more about mushroom production. She began her mushroom business adventure, producing mushrooms at a back yard and selling locally, but she experienced challenges.
