Kaizer Chiefs has slipped to 10th position on the Betway Premiership Log following a 2-1 loss against Orlando Pirates during a thrilling Soweto derby played at a sold-out FNB Stadium on Saturday 3 May 2025.
With less than four matches left, the defeat means Amakhosi is likely to finish another season outside the coveted top 8 position, while Pirates have revived their hopes of clinching the Premiership title as they trail behind log-leaders Mamelodi Sundowns with just 9 points.
Chiefs recorded one of their fastest goals this season when Glody Lilepo’s long range shot went behind Pirates goalie, Sipho Chaine, in the first 2 minutes of the match. The goal was a wake-up call for the Buccaneers, who were taking an approach to gradually build from behind.

Amakhosi were in full-control of the game until their steam declined in the 20th minute of the first half. Evidence Makgopa equalised for the Buccaneers in the 24th minute from a close-range shot, which left Kaizer Chiefs goalie, Bruce Bvuma, scratching his head in disbelief.
Pirates secured the winning goal in the 68th minute from Relebohile Mofokeng when Chiefs failed to clear the ball inside the box.
One of the highlights of the game included a second yellow card shown to Chiefs defender, Bradley Cross, for fouling the troublesome Mohau Nkota in the 91st minute.
The two Soweto giants will battle it out in the much anticipated Nedbank Cup schedule to take place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday 10 May 2025.
The game will offer Chiefs a chance to revoke their 10-year trophy drought, but the defending champions, Pirates, will not be easy to beat, particularly as they look to give their coach, Jose Riveiro, a memorable send-off since this season will be his last as Bucs coach.
