Excitement is building in Mbombela as the city prepares to host the international rugby match between South Africa and Argentina at the iconic Mbombela Stadium this Saturday, September 28.
The match is expected to draw large crowds of sports and rugby enthusiasts, which will likely lead to increased traffic volumes on major roads, including the N2, N3, N4, N11, and N12, as well as R40 and R38, among others.
The Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCSSL) in Mpumalanga says traffic volumes are likely to peak over the weekend as many people will be returning from school holidays in preparation for Tuesday 1 October when the fourth academic term resumes.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all, Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, is urging motorists to exercise caution and obey traffic rules.
Macie said the event is good for sport development and it is will also boost tourism in the city of Mbombela and the province.
“We are excited to host Argentina on our shores. What usually affects the exhilaration is usually road crashes that are mostly avoidable. Hence, we are appealing to road users to use the road with great caution this weekend,â said Macie.

Macie warns that reckless and negligent driving, as well as public drinking, will not be tolerated.
With Argentina’s impressive performance in the Rugby Championship this year, including wins over New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa, this match promises to be a thrilling encounter. The match kicks off at 17:00.
