Mpumalanga Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major-General(Dr)Zeph Mkhwanazi, has welcomed the arrest of three family members aged between 29 and 75, after they were linked to the murder of Freddy George Willies(80).
The murder reportedly took place on Sunday 27 April 2025, at around 8h40 am, in Schoemansdal.
According to the police spokesperson in Mpumalanga, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, preliminary information revealed that the victim’s son arrived at the parents’ home driving a Mercedes Benz and he was attacked by armed assailants wearing balaclavas.
“ The suspects reportedly tied him(the son) with a cable and proceeded into the house where they found Mr. Willies seated. They then sadly shot him point-blank before fleeing the scene in the son’s vehicle,” said Brigadier Mdhluli.
He also said the three family members face a charge of murder after police worked tirelessly around the clock to gather evidence and track them down. In addition, Brigadier Mdhluli said the police cannot rule out the possibility of more arrests being made as investigations continue.
Major-General Mkhwanazi said the exceptional work of the investigation team reflects a commitment to justice and community safety.
“ This incident is deeply concerning, and we will not rest until all those responsible are held accountable,” said General Mkhwanazi.
The three suspects will appear before the Nkomazi Magistrate’s Court in Tonga on Tuesday 29 April 2025.
