An alleged poaching incident in the KNP(Kruger National Park) led to the arrest of a 42-year-old foreign national on Tuesday evening, 31 March 2026.
The suspect was reportedly spotted alongside an accomplice on foot and subsequently sustained injuries during a gunfire exchange after he allegedly refused to stop when ordered by KNP Field Rangers who were patrolling the area at around 22:00
 
Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe, said the second suspect managed to evade arrest and is still at large.

“ During the arrest, the suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed hunting rifle, eight rounds of ammunition, an axe, and a knife. The suspect was subsequently transported to a medical facility for treatment under police guard.

“ He is expected to face charges including possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, possession of dangerous weapons, trespassing in a national park, and Contravention of Immigration Act of South Africa,” said Captain Nonyane-Mpe.
The suspect will reportedly appear in court soon, and a manhunt for the other suspect is currently underway.
