Michael Madonsela is back in jail after alleged escape

An alleged fugitive, identified as Michael Madonsela(35), was recaptured by the police after members of the public blew the whistle on his whereabouts.
Madonsela reportedly escaped from Carolina Hospital on 16 December 2023 whilst under police guard. According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, Madonsela was initially arrested the day before his alleged escape,on 15 December , after he was accused of house breaking.
“ Subsequent to that incident, he was reportedly assaulted then rescued from mob justice by the police, who arrested him and charged him for the alleged crime. Due to his injuries, he was taken to a nearby hospital in Carolina under police guard. It was during this time that he somehow escaped,” said Mdhluli.
In addition, Mdhluli said that Madonsela was cornered by police at Silobela in Carolina following a manhunt.
“ The incident is still being criminally and departmentally investigated by the police. At this stage police cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges against him as the investigation continues,” said Mdhluli.
Madonsela reportedly appeared before the Carolina Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 9 January facing a charge of house breaking. His case was reportedly postponed to 17 January for legal representation and he will be facing a charge of escaping from lawful custody.
