Thandeka Dorcus Mathebula is proving that dedication, patience, passion and hard work will always be rewarded.
The Mathematics teacher at Lehawu Secondary School, under Insikazi Cicuit in Ehlanzeni District, is flying the flag of Mpumalanga and South Africa high at the prestigious SSHP(Sakura Science High School Programme) in Japan .
Mpumalanga Department of Education congratulated Mathebula and wished her a safe and successful journey as she embarks on this life-changing educational exchange programme.
According to the Department, Mathebula’s nomination by the Department of Basic Education, in partnership with the JSTA(Japan Science and Technology Agency), confirms her commitment and sterling contribution towards the advancement of Mathematics education in the province and the country at large.Additionally, the Department said Mathebula’s achievement not only brings pride to Lehawu Secondary School and the Ehlanzeni District, but also serves as an inspiration to teachers and learners across the ‘Place of the Rising Sun’.
“ As one of the province’s finest Mathematics teachers, Ms. Mathebula will represent the country on the international stage. May this experience enrich her with valuable knowledge, global exposure, and innovative teaching approaches that will continue to strengthen the teaching and learning of Mathematics and Science in our schools,” said the Department of Education.
When she lands in Tokyo on 23 May, she won’t just be Thandeka Dorcus Mathebula from Ehlanzeni. She’ll be every child in Insikazi who’s ever been told “Maths is not for you.”
