Silulu Secondary School, at Mafambisa (KaMaqhekeza) in the Nkomazi Local Municipality, has opened its doors to learners, marking a new chapter in the community’s pursuit of quality education.
The school was reportedly established in response to the rapid growth of surrounding communities and the rising demand for accessible quality education.
The Department of Education in Mpumalanga said the school consists of 28 classrooms, an administration block, a computer center, a science laboratory, a library, and a multi-purpose hall, a fully equipped kitchen, 22 enviro-loo sanitation units, reliable water and electricity supply, a guard house, security fencing, ramps and rails for accessibility, a sheltered parking area, and a paved assembly space for learners.
Both learners and educators were reportedly accommodated at a nearby Mjokwane Secondary School on a temporary basis during the start of construction work at Silulu Secondary School.
“ For many years, learners in this community travelled long distances in pursuit of education. Today, under the democratic dispensation, access to education is no longer a privilege reserved for a few; it is a right being realised.
“ Silulu Secondary School therefore stands as tangible proof that the Mpumalanga Provincial Government continues to place education at the centre of community development,” said the Department of Education.

Additional features at the school include a tennis court, a netball court, and a soccer field which is currently nearing completion, as well as desks and chairs, educators’ tables and chairs, office furniture, cabinets, and other essential equipment.
