The Mpumalanga government has launched the Livi Lemphakatsi Citizen Engagement App, a mobile application reportedly designed to facilitate communication between citizens and their government.
According to the MEC for COGHSTA(Department of Cooperate Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs), Speed Mashilo, who delivered the keynote address on behalf of Mpumalanga Premier, Mandla Ndlovu, the app aims to enhance citizen-engagement, transparency, and service delivery within municipalities.
Mashilo emphasised that the app will allow citizens to submit and track service delivery complaints in real-time, ensuring accountability from local government structures. He added that the app will provide access to important news, updates, and resources related to local governance and services, as it will feature community polls and an event calendar to encourage community participation.
“ This name ‘Livi Lemphakatsi’ embodies the spirit of our community, indicating a gathering of voices and ideas. This app is not just a technological innovation; it is a bridge that connects you with your local government.
“ We will be happy when we have municipalities that are capable and financially sound. Our people expect our municipalities to be able to deliver on their objectives,” said Mashilo.
The launch of the app is said to be part of the government’s commitment to improving service delivery and fostering inclusive governance. Mashilo said the government believes that citizen-engagement is crucial for building a stronger, more connected community.
The MEC for COGHSTA has urged citizens to download the app and share it with their family, friends, and neighbours. He emphasised that the app is a tool for citizens to take charge of their civic responsibilities and engage with local leaders in a meaningful manner.
One of the residents of Emalahleni, Moses Mashianoke, has welcomed the launch of the app and he believes that it will go a long way in addressing some of the pressing service delivery issues faced by all citizens.
