In a bid to identify gaps and to equip officials with the necessary resources to deal with real-life road accidents, the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison(DCSSL) joined different stakeholders such as Sasol, Traffic Law Enforcement, Fire Department, South African Police Service(SAPS) as well as Breakdown Services, in a crash simulation exercise conducted on the N4 Toll Road near Karino.

DCSSL said the purpose of the simulation, which involved two vehicles and two trucks transporting dangerous goods, was to reconstruct a crash in order to know how it should be handled when trucks transporting goods are involved.

“ The simulation also assisted to check if emergency services do adhere to the RIMS(Road Incident Management System) protocols when attending to road crashes,” said DCSSL in a statement.
