Mpumalanga police have launched a manhunt for a suspect who reportedly shot and severely wounded political activist Sizwe Nyambi in Schoemansdal on Tuesday evening, 1 October.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said the victim was shot multiple times while  opening the gate at his residence after arriving with a companion at around 21h20.
“ An armed man wearing a black jersey and a white hat approached him and fired several shots, resulting in the victim sustaining injuries. Despite attempting to seek refuge in his house, the suspect continued firing at the victim as he tried to flee towards safety,” said Mdhluli.

The victim was reportedly swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment and is fighting for his life. Mdhluli said the suspect fled the scene and is still at large. He added that anyone with information that may assist to arrest the culprit can contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or send information via MYSAPSAPP.
“ All received information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality, and callers may opt to remain anonymous,” Mdhluli said.
Meanwhile, the Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major-General(Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi has assured the public that the police will work around the clock to ensure that the suspect is swiftly brought to book.
