The Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Agriculture conducted an oversight visit to the construction site of Mkhondo One Stop Centre to monitor progress on the project which reportedly started in 2018.
The visit is part of the programme by Mpumalanga Government called Taking the Legislature to the People which will run from 9-13 September. The programme is said to assess service delivery levels as well as interacting with local stakeholders.
According to the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs(DARDLEA), the project is in its Phase 2 stage of construction and is almost 80% complete, although it has faced some challenges during its Phase 1 stage, which hindered the envisaged progress. However, DARDLEA has revealed that the project is expected to be completed by October 2024(next month).
“ Phase 3 will then start in earnest, to include a Vet Clinic and a Shed, amongst others. The facility has been lauded for having created job opportunities for locals, especially during construction,” said DARDLEA.
The site visit was led by DARDLEA MEC, Nompumelelo Hlophe, alongside DARDLEA HOD(Head of Department), Cain Chunda, amongst other officials from the Portfolio Committee.
