A manhunt has been launched by the police in Hendrina following the alleged murder of an 11-year-old girl at a local farm on Sunday evening, 25 August. The gruesome incident allegedly occured at about 19h30 and the perpetrator reportedly fled scene after committing the evil deed.
According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, the perpetrator who is linked to the girl’s murder was out on R5000 bail after he was arrested for the alleged murder of another male in February this year.
Mdhluli said the mother reported the little girl’s disappearance to the police after a fruitless search. Mdhluli also said the mother informed the police that the child was last seen in the company of her sister’s male companion before she went missing.
“ Police went to the said farm to investigate and upon arrival, they went to look for this man but at that time, he had already left. The astute members somehow managed to get inside the shack,” said Mdhluli.
The police reportedly noticed some blood stains inside the shack. At about 100 metres away from the shack, they discovered the naked body of the child with stab wounds.
“ The little girl was unfortunately certified dead by the medical personnel at the scene. A case was opened and preliminary investigation suggests that the girl could have been raped by the suspect. The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage and no one has been arrested,” said Mdhluli.
Mpumalanga Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major-General(Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has expressed concern about the incident.
“ The lives of innocent children are cut short by heartless criminals, however, we promise not to rest until we find the perpetrator of this crime thereby ensuring he is brought to book,” said General Mkhwanazi.
Colonel Mdhluli said investigators are adamant that Vusi Nkambule(27) may assist in the investigation. He said that Nkambule is urged to immediately contact the police.
