A deadly cash-in-transit(CIT) robbery attempt was reportedly foiled at Tasbet Park in Emalahleni on Wednesday 3 April.

Five suspects were reportedly shot dead during an alleged confrontation with the police, while six others were arrested.

The suspects were reportedly found in possession of five rifles, as well as two unlicensed handguns and ammunition, which were all recovered by the police.

Mpumalanga MEC for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison(DCSSL), Vusi Shongwe, has appreciated the effort by all the teams who collaborated to bring the suspects to book.

He furthermore acknowledged Mpumalanga Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt-General Semakaleng Manamela, for leading members of the South African Police Service(SAPS) who are committed to placing their lives on the line everyday to protect communities.

“ We applaud the bravery by members in foiling the CIT and the recoveries made of dangerous weapons and ammunition. We will always welcome any recovery of ammunition and firearms considering the levels of violent crime and armed robberies in our country. We must support the police in their endeavours to make our communities safe,” said Shongwe

The MEC encouraged the police to thoroughly investigate the suspects to determine whether they are linked to any other cases.
