Senior management which include hospital CEO’s, accompanied the MEC for health in Mpumalanga,Sasekani Manzini, during the launch of women’s marathon in Witbank-Emalahleni local municipality, on Tuesday.
The purpose of the women’s marathon is said to address pressing gynae and surgical operation backlog.
The department of health in Mpumalanga said, in a statement, that operations will focus on medical conditions that primarily affect women, such as; total vaginal and abdominal hysterectomy, cervical amputation, rectovaginal distal repair, bilateral tubular ligation and mymimectomies.
” Currently, the number of women in need of surgical operations is 204. The operations will run concurrently in five hospitals namely; Witbank, Ermelo, Themba, Mapulaneng and Rob Ferreira. The marathon will run from 18 to 31 August,” said the department.
