An intelligence-driven operation by a team of national crime intelligence, Ekurhuleni East crime intelligence, Middleburg K9 unit, Middleburg-based Hawks, Delmas police and members of the neighbourhood watch, received praise from Mpumalanga MEC for community safety, security and liaison(DCSSL)-Vusi Shongwe, following the successful arrest of 16 Mozambican and Zimbabwean foreign nationals (aged between 15 and 43) for allegedly operating an illegal drug laboratory at Klipspruit farm near Delmas.
According to DCSSL, the law enforcement team recovered equipment used in illegal activities, after investigating five buildings where the drug laboratory was reportedly in operation. Three vehicles believed to have been used during illicit activities and a TLB which was reportedly stolen in Gauteng, were seized for further investigation.
Shongwe said that drugs are responsible for destroying many communities. He also thanked the neighbourhood watch for collaborating with the police to expose the drug nest.
” We cannot sit back and allow selfish people to destroy the future of our country. These heartless people are only interested in raking ill-gotten money at the expense of communities, especially young people. It is high time that these people are put behind bars,” said Shongwe.
The MEC called on communities to expose drug dealers in Mpumalanga. He added that perpetrators of crime are members of communities and are known.
