Delegates and stakeholders in different leadership positions within local government, met at the two-day provincial members assembly starting from 6-7 July hosted by the South African Local Government Association(SALGA), in Emalahleni.
The assembly is said to focus on key issues affecting local government on matters such as, inadequate financial management, challenges in governance, service delivery interventions, consequence management, amongst other factors.
In her opening and welcoming address, SALGA chairperson in Mpumalanga and executive mayor of Ehlanzeni district municipality, Jesta Sidell, said that the quality of life for citizens can be efficiently improved through effective local governance.
” Our local government is entrusted with the provision of essential services, the maintenance of infrastructure and the promotion of economic development. We are at the forefront of addressing the immediate concerns of our constituents, from waste management to public safety, from education to healthcare,” Sidell.
