A quick response by the police led to the rescue of two victims who were alleged hijacked and kidnapped by unknown assailants after attending a meeting outside the premises of a primary school at Nyongane, near Hazyview, on 1 May.

According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, the incident occurred while the victims were attending to a car that had mechanical problems after the said meeting.

ā€œ Three armed suspects emerged out of nowhere and pointed them with firearms. The suspects then forced two victims into the boot of two VW Polos and drove away. The incident was immediately reported to the police and members from Hazyview mobilised their resources where they traced the vehicles,ā€ said Mdhluli.

 

 

He also said that the victims were safely located and the two vehicles were found abandoned by the suspects. According to Mdhluli, the police have launched a manhunt for the suspects who are reportedly still at large.

Mpumalanga Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt-General Semakaleng Manamela, has welcomed the swift response by the police while also expressing gray for the safe rescue of the victims and recovery of their vehicles.

ā€œ We really applaud members for their dedication and commitment in fighting crime. We will continue to remain steadfast in our endeavour to deal decisively with crime. Our search for the suspects continues,ā€ said Manamela.
