Two Zimbabwean nationals, Margaret Ndlovu(23) and Tladiwa Madzokere(19), reportedly thought they’ve hatched a perfect plan to getaway with a crime, but investigating officers became suspicious when their alleged cooked-up story became riddled with inconsistencies.
The two were arrested on Saturday 16 December and they are currently facing a charge of perjury(lying under oath) after they allegedly opened a false case of business robbery at Belfast Police Station on Friday 15 December.
According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, Ndlovu and Madzokere accompanied each other to open a case whereby they alleged that two armed male suspects stormed into their workplace at a certain local Casino in Belfast and robbed them of cash at gunpoint.
” Due to the experience as well as the skills and training that the police officials that were assigned to take their statements possess, it became clear that something was not making sense when members were asking some valuable questions from the so called complainants,” said Mohlala.
He added that police investigated the matter and discovered that the two allegedly colluded to give false information.
” It was soon discovered that the two allegedly took the money from the business for themselves and used it for their own benefit, then opened a case to cover their tracks,” said Mohlala.
Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt-General Semakaleng Manamela, warned the public to refrain from making such false claims at the police station as it is a waste of state resources and it will lead to arrest.
” We would like to take this opportunity and warn people that whoever takes a chance to open a false case, will be dealt with accordingly,” warned Lt-General Manamela.
The two suspects reportedly appeared before the Belfast Magistrate’s Court on Monday 18 December and they were remanded in custody after their case was postponed to Wednesday 27 December.
