The gruesome discovery of three burnt bodies at Mekemeke, near Malelane, on Thursday morning(30 January 2025), was condemned by the provincial SAPS(South African Police Service) in Mpumalanga.
Provincial police spokesperson, Lt-Col Jabu Ndubane, said the bodies were reportedly found tied, burnt, and hanged, while showing signs of severe assault.
“ The motive behind the killing is unknown at this stage, and the suspects have not yet been located. The circumstances surrounding this incident will form part of the investigation, which has commenced,” said Lt-Ndubane.

The Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Maj-Gen(Dr)Zeph Mkhwanazi, said a team of investigators has been put together to probe the incident, with hope to secure the speedy arrest of the culprits.
“ We are really disturbed by this barbaric act committed against other human beings. People seem to have lost their morals, but we want to assure all that we will work hard and get the perpetrators behind bars,” said Mkhwanazi.
Lt-Col Ndubane has urged members of the community to come forward with information that can assist the police to apprehend those responsible for the gruesome act. Lt-Col Ndubane has requested members of the public to call the Crime Stop number on 0860 10111, or alternatively send information via the MYSAPSAPP.
“ All information received will be treated with the utmost confidentiality, and callers may remain anonymous,” Lt-Col Ndubane concluded.
