A 26-year-old Mozambican national was arrested and charged for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle on the N4 near Alkmaar in Nelspruit, on Monday 16 February 2026.

The vehicle, a Toyota GD-6, was reportedly stolen earlier on the same day in Kameldrift, Gauteng Province.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Lt-Col Jabu Ndubane, said members of the White River Flying Squad spotted the vehicle travelling towards Nelspruit while conducting routine patrols along the N4.

“ The vehicle, a Toyota GD-6, was found fitted with false registration plates. Further inspection revealed that certain interior components of the vehicle had been removed, possibly in preparation for the removal of a tracking device.

“ The recovered vehicle was taken to the Vehicle Identification Section (VIS) for safekeeping and further forensic investigation,” said Lt-Col Ndubane.

The suspect will reportedly appear before the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court to face the charges levelled against him.

The Acting Provincial Police Commissioner in Mpumalanga, Major-General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, said the police will continue to intensify visibility and patrols along major routes to combat crime effectively. He furthermore commended the officers for their dedication and commitment in apprehending the suspect.
