The annual district active ageing games were held at the Solomon Mahlangu stadium in Kwamhlanga- Chris Hani local municipality (Nkangala district) on Thursday, hosted by the Mpumalanga department of social development, under the leadership of MEC Lindiwe Ntshalintshali.
Senior citizens participated in different sporting codes such as athletics, soccer, rugby throw, ring the stick, ball throwing, to name but a few.
According to the department, the games are held at local, district and provincial levels, in preparation for the national active ageing programme scheduled to be hosted by Mpumalanga province in October, this year.
Furthermore, the department added that Nkangala is the first district to host the games, followed by Ehlanzeni and Gert Sibande districts.
MEC Ntshalintshali received donations of bread, squeeze bottles and carry bags, on behalf of the department from Blue Ribbon, which were handed over to the senior citizens who participated in the games.
