The enormous support shown so far towards the Rhandza Xikolo Xa Wena campaign by various communities and schools, has pleased the MEC for education in Mpumalanga, Bonakele Majuba.
The campaign, which focuses on communities coming together to refurbish, clean, paint, plant vegetable gardens in local schools, was officially launched on 25 July in Ehlanzeni district and it continues to spread throughout various parts of the province.
MEC Majuba, alongside a team of officials and stakeholders( Inkosi Mabhena Mahlangu, representatives of the Mpumalanga Regional Training Trust, Be Proud Kusekhaya, Old Mutual) visited Thuthukani primary school in Kwagafontein-Thembisile Hani local municipality (Nkangala district)to actively participate in the campaign, on Thursday.
The MEC said that there’s a need for development in the school (Thuthukani) and community, as the school’s name loosely means “development” in isiNguni. He acknowledges the support of all social partners who made financial contributions so that the day can be a resounding success.
” Our schools are the foundation of the future, as such, they require all hands on deck for their effectiveness and productivity. They are where our children learn and grow, they are where we prepare them for the world ahead.
” It is our responsibility to ensure that our schools are safe, clean and well-maintained. The Rhandza Xikolo Xa Wena campaign is about more than just cleaning our schools. It is about creating a safe and supportive environment for learning,” said Majuba.
Majuba added that the department of education is making a clarion call to members of the public to explore various ways to participate and contribute towards the success of Rhandza Xikolo Xa Wena campaign.
Other primary schools in Nkangala district, which participated in the campaign include; Silabule, Chief Luthuli, Loding and Sithembiso.
The Rhandza Xikolo Xa Wena campaign will continue in Bohlabela and Gert Sibande districts on 3 and 8 August, respectively.
