The following incident occurred on the R38 Road between Barberton and Manzana which led to six people losing their lives at the scene. The deceased were passengers of a minibus, travelling from Johannesburg to Mozambique, which reportedly overturned after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The minibus is said to have rolled several times down the mountain. The remaining passengers sustained serious injuries and were taken to Barberton hospital for medical attention.
DCSSL MEC, Vusi Shongwe, called for motorist to avoid excessive speeding and to rest sufficiently when travelling long distances. He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
” We have noted most deadly crashes occur at night and during the early morning hours. Some of these crashes, we believe, are attributable to fatigue. Therefore, motorists must rest sufficiently along the way when undertaking long journeys,” said Shongwe
