The R40 Road between Mbombela and White River just by the famous Riverside Mall was closed for several hours following a multi vehicle crash that happened. About six vehicles were involved in a multi accident where the driver of the truck was burnt beyond recognition .
Acccording to eye witnesses it appeared as if the driver of the truck lost control and could not stop at traffic lights. It subsequently plunged into five stationary vehicles at the traffic lights.
Afterwards the truck overturned on the side of the road and it also caught fire. The driver of the truck passed on at the scene and he was burned beyond recognition.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe said truck drivers and owners must always ensure their vehicles are in roadworthy condition and that there are no defects.
“Without producing the probe that is already underway, into the crash, we are once more pleading with truck owners to always ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy. They must always that their drivers rest sufficiently especially those who embark on long trips. Fatigue also plays a hand in some of these crashes, so drivers must rest,” he said.
