A team of police investigators have collaborated with health experts and other role players to probe the death of a 2 year-old boy from Violetbank, in Bushbuckridge, who reportedly fell ill after consuming food on Wednesday 30 October.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said the police in Bushbuckridge responded to a call regarding siblings aged 2,3,4 and 5 who were experiencing stomach aches.
According to Mdhluli, the deceased child was certified dead by medical personnel who attended the scene.
“ The remaining siblings were taken to a nearby hospital, where they received medical attention. Two of the children were discharged, while the fourth one remains in the care of the hospital, “ said Mdhluli.
He said that police are also probing allegations about the food that the children ate prior to falling ill.
The Acting Mpumalanga Provincial Police Commissioner, Major-General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, said the investigation process aims to uncover the truth behind the incident without making speculations. General Mkhwanazi furthermore urged the public to allow investigators the space to do their work.
“ We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased child and wish a swift recovery to the other affected children,” said the General.
