The police in Bushbuckridge have arrested a 33 year-old mother at Boikhutso Trust, on Monday 19 August, for the death of her 8 months old child, whose death was linked to alleged poisoning.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said the incident was brought to the attention of the police by a local funeral parlor.
“ On arrival at the scene, the men and women in Blue discovered the infant laying motionless, with the mother present. As part of ongoing investigation, the forensic team has began the spade work through gathering of evidence with a hope to determine the cause of death,” said Mdhluli.
The Acting Mpumalanga Provincial Police Commissioner, Major-General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has lambasted the alleged killing of the child and called on members of the public to refrain from taking out their frustrations on innocent children.
“ The law should surely deal decisively with any person who harms children, regardless of any excuse that one may think of. Our role is to protect the vulnerable, including children,” said General Mkhwanazi.
