The MTPA(Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency) Interim Board has announced the resignation of its CEO(Chief Executive Officer),Mduduzi Vilakazi.
According to the MTPA, Vilakazi’s resignation follows a disciplinary hearing that started on 29 October 2025.
Vilakazi has reportedly been on precautionary suspension pending the conclusion of disciplinary processes related to allegations of corruption and maladministration concerning the Barberton Makhonjwa Mountain World Heritage Site.
“ The MTPA Interim Board has accepted his resignation and wishes Mr. Vilakazi well in his future endeavours. He tendered his resignation, effective 3 November 2025, and waived the applicable notice period,” said the Interim Board.

It was also reported by the Interim Board that Lemmy Mdluli will continue to serve as Acting Chief Executive Officer to ensure continuity of leadership and the smooth functioning of the Agency’s operations.

Mdluli was appointed to serve as the Acting MTPA CEO in August 2025. Prior to his current position, he served as the Chief Director of Integrated Economic Development in the Department of Economic Development and Tourism in Mpumalanga.
