While a number of parents still wonder when schools will re-open , the Department of Education in Mpumalanga has announced that all principals, management teams and support staff members are back to school and there is smooth operations.

The department’s spokesperson, Gerald Sambo, said the return to school of management teams is intended to ensure smooth preparations before learners return back on Monday.

“The department is putting systems in place towards the successful return of learners and subsequent return of all primary school learners on August 2.” Of the 53 000 staff education and support staff members in the province, 42 066 that got their vaccine.

“A few staff members, for some reasons, could not take advantage of this vaccination process. They need to be encouraged and convinced to appreciate the fact the vaccination drive is meant to save lives. Therefore the need for them to come on board is even greater,” he explained.

MEC for education, Bonakele Majuba, said, “Our discussion and desires are encouraged by the degree of cooperation among us as stakeholders as we all rally together towards encouraging the entire staff membership of the department, teachers and non-teaching staff to embrace the vaccination programme.

“We also extend our gratitude to the Department of Health for the awesome way in which they administered and managed this vaccination programme.

“Even if the majority of our teachers and support staff have been vaccinated, they should not let their guard down but to continue observing the non-pharmaceutical health and safety precautions.”
