In a bid to ensure that road users experience free flow of traffic, Mpumalanga MEC for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison(DCSSL)-Vusi Shongwe, together with Provincial Police Commissioner-Lt General Semakaleng Manamela, visited the Lebombo Border Post on Thursday ahead of the long weekend of 16 December.

Shongwe and Manamela met with officials from various entities such as South African Revenue Service(SARS), amongst other stakeholders, and they were content with effective mechanisms that are put in place in dealing with traffic congestion caused by trucks along the N4 Toll Road towards the Border Post.

The MEC noted the recent effort by SARS Customs to confiscate counterfeit goods worth millions at the Border Post.

” We are working well in collaboration with all the agencies and various departments to make sure that there’s an easy flow of traffic at the Border Post. As you can see, the congestion that was experienced a few months ago is being well managed. This is not just for December, because we’ve managed to minimise the congestion which was caused by trucks driving into the on-coming traffic,” said MEC Shongwe.

He furthermore said that DCSSL has deployed traffic officers in all the identified problematic routes to ensure safety and to deal decisively with acts of lawlessness.
