Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison(DCSSL), Jackie Macie, walked the streets of Vosman in Emalahleni, alongside members of various laws enforcement agencies during a high density operation(Operation Shanela) on Friday night of 30 August. The operation reportedly saw the MEC visiting taverns, shopping malls, while patrolling various routes and also searching for wanted suspects.

The MEC reportedly attended a briefing with senior police officials, prior to the raid, whereby he was alerted that the area of Vosman has a high occurrence of contact crimes such as assault with grievous bodily harm(GBH), common assault and attempted murder, largely due to alcohol abuse on weekends.

In a statement issued by DCSSL, the briefing also revealed that illegal firearms were used in most crimes committed, particularly robberies and car hijackings, as well as criminals who have access to explosives that are reportedly used for ATM bombings in the area.

“ The area also has challenges of spikes on the road, especially the N4 toll road and the N12 highway,” said DCSSL.

Macie also addressed all the law enforcement agencies members at a parade where he expressed contentment with the good job that is done by the police in the province, also calling on the members to protect each other and communities against ruthless criminals.

“ He called on men and women in blue to always ensure that they write statements meticulously so that such statements contribute to successful prosecution of perpetrators,” said DCSSL.
