Mpumalanga MEC for DCSSL(Community Safety, Security and Liaison), Jackie Macie says the law must take its course against criminals who continue to rape and kill young girls Mpumalanga.
Macie was responding to recent police reports involving two girls, aged 16 and 17, who were allegedly raped while on their way to school in Tonga on 2 September, as well as the brutal killing of an 11 year-old girl whose lifeless body was reportedly discovered with stab wounds and believed to be raped in Hendrina on 25 August. A suspect was since arrested in connection with the little girl’s murder.
“ We cannot fail these young people as government. We need to do all that we can to ensure that their aggressors face the full might of the law,” said Macie.
He added that the future of the two young rape victims might be adversely affected due to trauma.
“ These perpetrators of crime have no place in our communities. We cannot have people who, instead of protecting our children, torment them,” he said.
Macie is confident that the deployment of Crime Prevention Wardens is a crucial step towards strengthening the existing police structures in curbing crime and locating wanted suspects throughout the province.
“ These wardens are expected to assist the police in dealing with crime quicker. Most of these perpetrators of crimes are known in communities, and sometimes communities are afraid to speak out. We believe that the deployment of these CPW’s will strengthen the turnaround time of solving criminal cases,” Macie said.
He furthermore urged the police to work around the clock in locating the culprit who is responsible for the rape of the two learners in Tonga, as he is reportedly still at large.
