A 26 year-old male suspect was atrested on the same day after he allegedly stabbed a 25 year-old man to death at a tavern in College View, Bushbuckridge, in the early hours of Saturday 6 October.
According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, the victim, identified as Bright Mnisi from Mkhuhlu near Hazyview, reportedly succumbed to his injuries at Mapulaneng hospital and he was certified dead by the medical personnel.
“ Following the incident, members of the South African Police Service(SAPS) in Bushbuckridge, investigated and wasted no time as they traced and apprehended the suspect in connection with the murder. The motive behind the killing remains unknown at this stage and forms an integral part of the ongoing investigation by the police,” said Mdhluli.
The suspect will reportedly appear at the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court on Monday 7 October, facing a charge of murder.
The Acting Mpumalanga Provincial Police Commissioner, Major-General(Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has expressed concern about the crime that emanates from liquor outlets and urged them to ensure that their patrons are safe. Mkhwanazi also questioned if the liquor trader was in compliance with regulations, as the incident reportedly occurred at around 03h40 in the morning.
“ We continue to work tirelessly to combat crime and bring offenders to justice. One begins to ask some questions as to whether the liquor owner was in compliance. The SAPS remains committed to ensuring that justice is served for the victim and his family,” said General Mkhwanazi.
