Two suspects aged 26 and 34 from Kanyamazane were allegedly caught red handed with suspected stolen items worth about R7000 from a clothing shop at Ilanga Mall in Nelspruit on Wednesday 13 December.
The suspects were reportedly cornered after they stole and tried to flee the shopping mall in a white VW Polo.
Police spokesperson in Mpumalanga, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, said close surveillance cameras linked the suspects to a string of shoplifting incidents at Riverside Mall(also in Nelspruit).
” The suspects were traced down by Crime Intelligence to Ilanga Mall where close monitoring was conducted and it is alleged that they further stole five jackets then concealed the items inside a paper bag lined with foil so as to prevent the tag detection on the exit door of the shop.

” Members from Nelspruit Visible Policing were activated and information was operationalised. The suspects were then cornered and found with five suspected stolen jackets,” said Mohlala.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the suspects might be implicated in business robbery cases where mobile phones were stolen, this also includes their possible involvement in a reported armed robbery whereby a VW Polo was reportedly used as a getaway car.
The suspects will reportedly appear before the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Monday 18 December.
