It was a sleepless night for residents from across the country where heavy rains poured out.  A number of municipalities, including Nkomazi Municipality, were badly affected as a number of bridges were swept away, and people left with houses full of water.

The  Nkomazi municipality has  pleaded with residents to stay safe during these heavy rains. Spokesperson for the Municipality, Cyril Ripinga said they are assisting those that were heavily affected, wherever they can as a municipality. ” As a Municipality we are doing all we can in evacuating those that were badly affected as the heavy rains are still to continue,” he said. A total of 11 bridges are reportedly to be under water .

The affected places include , Masibekela,Mzinti, driekoppies and Kamhlushwa since the rains started. In other parts, houses are submerged in water, with Mlumati river overflowing. All the excess water is directed to residential areas.

The public is advised to avoid using low bridge routes. The local municipality warned  residents about the persistent heavy rainfall. Its Disaster Management team is on standby to help in case of emergency. Emergency numbers are 082 806 1611
