The University of Mpumalanga hosted graduation ceremonies to honour Academic Excellence and the Vice-Chancellor Scholarship recipients at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Mbombela, on Friday 3 May 2024.
According to a statement by UMP, a total of 1,515 students were conferred qualifications during the 9th graduation which signals growth from the 1,235 qualifications conferred in 2023. UMP stated that 50 different qualifications were conferred during the ceremony, of which 10 qualifications were conferred for the first time.
The university has reportedly achieved a high percentage of female graduates(66.4%), and the remaining 33.6% was made up of male graduates.

UMP Vice-Chancellor, Professor Thoko Mayekiso, congratulated the students for putting effort in their studies, also for playing a huge role in building the UMP brand.
“ This is a great day to see efforts culminating in achievement, dreams coming to fruition and the effort duly rewarded. We congratulate and appreciate the parents, families and friends for the love, support and understanding they provided,” said Prof Mayekiso.

UMP said the Vice-Chancellor Scholarship recipients are expected to remain consistent in their academic performance.
Other speakers at the two ceremonies included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Davhana-Maselesele, Chief Albert Luthuli Research Chair, Professor Puleng Segalo, amongst others. The Premier of Mpumalanga, Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane was amongst the dignitaries in attendance.
