With only just 28 days left before the start of 2024 National Senior Certificate Examination, the MEC for Education in Mpumalanga, Cathy Dlamini, urged all grade 12 learners in the province to focus in order to attain great results.
MEC Dlamini was speaking at Khamane Secondary School in Marapyane, Dr JS Moroka Local Municipality, during her visit to monitor the start of Spring Classes in the area, on Monday 23 September and expected to run until 27 September.
Dlamini said the Spring Classes are a continuation of a programme by the Department, which started with Winter Classes in 92 Centers for 153 schools. These schools are said to have performed below the expected threshold in the 2023 National exams results.

ā€œ I had an opportunity to look at the performance of your school-Khamane Secondary School, and I noticed that in 2020 your school obtained 58.9% pass rate, in 2021 it registered a 59.4% pass rate, in 2022 it recorded a 54.5% pass rate and in 2023 the results improved to 62.3% pass rate.
ā€œ There would be a time when you will look back with appreciation and say, had it not that I woke up to attend the winter and spring classes in 2024, I would not be an engineer, doctor, teacher, nurse or a professional person that I am now,ā€ MEC Dlamini said to the learners.
She said top-performing teachers were selected to lead the classes, focusing on 11 subjects. Dlamini also said the Department is providing essential services including nutrition and scholar transport, where necessary, to ensure a conducive learning environment for the learners.
ā€œ Keep making those sacrifices and we can assure you that they will make you a better and responsible citizen in the near future. I am hopeful that when we announce the results on 16 January 2025, your school will be amongst the best of the best,ā€ said Dlamini.
