Three suspects were nabbed in Wakkerstroom on Sunday 18 August after they were found in possession of 31kg of dagga with an estimated street value of R124 000.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said the suspects, identified as Wakhile Nhleko(26), Mangaliso Sibande(32) and Sfiso Vilakazi(39), were caught travelling in a silver-grey Audi sedan during a police operation called High Density.
“ The vehicle was stopped by the astute members and followed by a search. It was during this period when four bags loaded with dagga were discovered inside the vehicle. The three suspects were nabbed and charged for dealing in dagga,” said Mdhluli.
He said the Department of Home Affairs was roped in after Nhleko and Vilakazi failed to produce valid documentation to be in the Republic of South Africa.
“ Police cannot rule out the possibility of adding a charge of contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa against the two(Nhleko and Vilakazi) as the probe continues,” Mdhluli said.
The trio reportedly appeared at the Wakkerstroom Periodical Court on Wednesday 21 August and their case was postponed to Wednesday 28 August for a formal bail application. Mdhluli said the suspects will remain in custody until the next court appearance.
