MEC Majuba intends to accelerate efforts to improve the intake as well as the pass rates in Mathematics, Physical Science and Technology Subjects.
Speaking at the occassion of the Commemoration of the Mathematics,Science and Technology Academy yesterday, MEC Majuba said:
“We are grateful that each year on this month in this week, we are able to gather in this academy with an intention to fulfil the mission initiated by this Icon; to promote the teaching of Science and to demystify the perception that Mathematics and Physical science are difficult subjects.
We wish to continue on the path of this great teacher as we endeavour to do everything possible to foster a regime where creative thinking and innovation will constitute what we regard as quality teaching and learning.
We forever hold teachers in high esteem for their effort to free our citizens from illiteracy, social marginalization and hopelessness as espoused by the likes of OR during hard, conscience-testing and repressive years of our nation.
As the Department, we pledged to roll our sleeves, dirty our hands and work around the clock to uplift our communities in line with our educational imperatives and to continue to promote the intake and pass rates in Mathematics and Sciences subjects in all our schools.
This year the Department also made strides in the pilot of Coding and Robotics by providing orientation to principals, subject advisors, and teachers.
The advocacy programmes on Coding and Robotics were supported by Standard Bank. My companion Paper the Robot added impetus in concertizing our communities about the significance of this subject”.
