A multi-disciplinary roadblock led by the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison(DCSSL), was conducted on the N4 Toll Road near Alkamaar on Tuesday 8 October, as part of commemorating Transport Month.

In a statement issued by DCSSL, 428 drivers and passengers were educated on road safety.

“ During the roadblock, 270 vehicles were stopped and 41 fines issued to motorists for different traffic violations. Three unroadworthy minibus taxis were impounded and one notice to discontinue was also issued for a vehicle which was found with multiple defects,” said DCSSL.

Some of the stakeholders who were part of the roadblock included Traffic and Road Safety officers from DCSSL, members of South African Police Service(SAPS), Transport Inspectorate officers from the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport, Traffic and Law Enforcement officers from the City of Mbombela, officials from Road Traffic Infringement Agency and Road Accident Fund.

Additionally, DCSSL said the Road Traffic Infringement Agency(RTIA) assisted motorists to pay for their outstanding traffic fines.
